This Christmas, we aim to draw attention to two exceptional martyrs of the National Socialism through our art series
Pastor Albert Hirsch
1894 – †22.8.1944
Pastor Albert Hirsch was arrested by the Gestapo and brought before a special court. Due to his resistance against National Socialism, he was sentenced to four years in prison for “spreading enemy news.”
Following his imprisonment, Pastor Albert Hirsch passed away in Gollnow prison due to the consequences of his detention.
Alice Reis
17.9.1903 – †9.8.1943
Sister Alice Reis, an order sister, was a victim of the Holocaust and was forced to leave her monastery in Bloemendaal. As a Jew with a residence ban, she moved to Almelo, where she was taken into custody by German authorities and then imprisoned in the transit camp JDG Westerbork. From there, she was transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp and murdered in a gas chamber at the Auschwitz II Birkenau subcamp
