eye square marks its 25th anniversary in 2024 as a pioneer in market research and innovative insights into human behavior. Over the past two decades, significant changes have occurred in technology, media, and human experiences. To adapt to these dynamic shifts, eye square has introduced the Human Experience Family (HXF), a collaborative platform where experts from various fields come together to explore, discuss, and analyze the evolving landscape of human experiences.<\/p>\n

On March 14,<\/a> we celebrated the first of a series of gatherings that will investigate human existence and experience in a world shaped by new digital realities, from AI and the metaverse, to social media and digital work. Under the topic \u201cBeing human in a rapidly evolving digital landscape\u201d three premier experts and forty guests had an exciting discussion about the human condition – more specifically a uniquely important factor of human existence and experience: Work. What does work mean today – and how will it change, from the macro-economic level right down to enterprises and the daily organization of work. The event featured a literature afternoon including book presentations and a panel discussion on the authors’ topics.<\/p>\n

eye\u00a0square is lucky enough to have one of these experts in-house: Dominik Vogt, a trained philosopher and economist, just published his book the \"The Broad State\u201c in 2023 and was on hand to discuss his findings and visions.<\/p>\n

In \"The Broad State\", Vogt critically explores the crisis of liberal democracy, often perceived as the backbone of capitalism. He questions its viability and discusses ways to rejuvenate its appeal. He portrays liberal democracy as a potential utopia, currently in crisis due to its manifestation as a neoliberal lean state. In his view, the promise of prosperity from the German social market economy model has become unstable, and the required economic growth threatens our planet's future.<\/p>\n

Vogt proposes an alternative: the concept of a \"broad state\". Rather than restructuring the growth-dependent economy, he revisits the concepts of work and property, and advocates for a new form of societal participation through basic income and social services. In his statement, Vogt outlined a new synergy of democratic politics, liberal society, and free market economy, arguing that only a broad foundation of collective provision for existence can enable individual freedom and genuine self-responsibility. In the \"broad state\", the community caters to basic needs, while the market economy caters to luxury.<\/p>\n

As an economist and political philosopher Vogt added further insights: As more wealth is inherited than earner, growth is faltering due to saturation - a lack of work, investment and consumption, and a fear of change and alternative models. This can be seen in a growing lack of innovation in society and politics. People today seem reluctant to participate or bear participation\u2019s necessary sacrifices. eye square was also grateful, that a premier colleague from eye square\u2019s academic relations portfolio, Prof. Dr. Astrid Nelke, herself a renowned academic, consultant and author of \"Employer Branding\u201c, was available to address the audience. Dr. Nelke took a more concrete approach to the issue of work and employment with her topic of \u00a0\"employer branding\u201c which concerns all enterprises in today\u2019s labor market.<\/p>\n

In an era when technology is more readily available and qualified human talent is more difficult to find, companies compete fiercely for talent. A central paradox lies in a simultaneous shortage and release of employees on the market. More unemployment does not necessarily mean more availability of talent.<\/p>\n

Consequently, companies need to put a greater focus on Human Resources as probably the one really scarce factor. A comprehensive approach such as \u201eemployer branding\u201c needs to include healthy work, career paths, internal communication, and hybrid work models. Nelke conducted a multimethod study combining quantitative global data with qualitative insights. The results showed that employer branding must not just be associated with clich\u00e9s like table football and fruit baskets, but rather requires an integration of HR and corporate communication.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the triad of worker experts, Dirk Engel, co-author of \"Hybrid Working - Learning in Virtual Worlds\u201c and a long-time friend and colleague of eye square\u2019s, delved into a\u00a0comprehensive exploration of the integration of virtual worlds into the work environment, from Metaverse-like apps to VR\/AR technologies and their practical applications in the workplace.<\/p>\n

According to Engel hybrid work is not just a reduction or substitution of certain aspects of work, but also an opportunity for individualization, the promotion of VR and AI, and a solution to global challenges such as demographic change and interruption of physical processes (travel for example). His presentation described\u00a0the integration of virtual worlds into the work environment as\u00a0forward-looking developments with many opportunities of streamlining work, without necessarily losing human touch and interactivity.<\/p>\n

One currently available solution that was picked out was \"Gather Town\u201c - a virtual collaboration platform (also called the \"Second Life of Work\u201c) that aims to replicate the benefits of in-person collaboration for distributed teams. It offers features such as shared whiteboards for fostering creativity and teamwork, the ability to create a unique atmosphere for remote offices, and the creation of digital spaces designed to make virtual interactions more human.<\/p>\n

Engel explained that tools like \u201eGT\" allow remote employees to keep the atmosphere of a shared space alive. Meetings can be scheduled directly from Google Calendar using the Gather Meetings extension, which offers an optimized meeting experience for remote teams. \nAugustine Kangni introduced her startup, which focuses on tackling intercultural challenges in the global workplace. The early-stage EdTech idea aims to address cultural barriers that impede productivity and performance in global teams. By offering an online-education program, skll-ink aims to enhance collaboration and increase cultural sensitivity. The startup also emphasizes the importance of redefining communication skills to foster improved collaboration and secure profitability in the business world.<\/p>\n

\nAdrian Beyertt<\/strong>
\nThe essence of being human lies in the meaningful interactions we have with others. Loneliness, depression, lack of recognition in the workplace, excessive use of social media, and isolation are all factors that affect our mental health. The current issue lies in the feelings of loneliness and the negative impact of excessive technology use. But can digital products also foster healthy connections? If so, what would they look like?<\/p>\n

“heppy” is a tool designed to make you feel valued by the most important people in your life. It functions as a virtual “message in a bottle” and creates a community of friends. Developing quality social connections is crucial for maintaining good mental health.<\/p>\n

\nNiklas Todenh\u00f6fer<\/strong>
\nCongratulations to Niklas Todenh\u00f6fer, who was the winner of the Human Experience Pitch Night Event!<\/p>\n

Connect with your community and make a global impact! The development of his application \u201egivingful\u201c aims to reduce waste in cities and builds trust through efficient local sharing. The application connects givers and collectors to reduce waste and conserve resources in the local area. As a collector you can discover free items in your area. “givingful” is simplified through user-friendly design.<\/p>\n

A percentage of profits is donated to impactful charities. And Niklas has another vision: future payments should take place on a public blockchain for transparency. Niklas Todenh\u00f6fer donated the 500 Euro prize to another charity project.<\/p>\n

\u201eSpaceshare\u201c<\/strong>
\nTogehter with his partner, Hrvoje Didovic is leading a community-managed co-working initiative to address the issue of expensive and hard-to-scale existing co-working spaces. Spaceshare offers a solution where anyone can easily set up a co-working space without the need for a large investment, making use of underutilized space in cities.<\/p>\n

The spaces provided by Spaceshare are informal yet functional, offering a more affordable alternative to traditional office spaces and cafes. This start-up aims to reinvent the co-working space model by focusing on sustainability, scalability, and being asset and payroll-light.

\n“Frau Kimchi”<\/strong>
\nThe founder of this start-up has a personal connection to fermented foods like Kimchi and Doenjang. After moving to Berlin, she realized that it was difficult to find these cherished foods in the city, even with many Asian markets available. The goal of the start-up is to introduce fresh and fermented food, starting with Kimchi, in Berlin and eventually expand across Germany.<\/p>\n

They aim to serve customers who have trouble finding fresh high quality fermented or preserved foods, as well as small local vendors who face challenges in marketing their products.<\/p>\n

\nEvery week, the meditation-room called “Mindful Circles” welcomes Startup founders, early employees, entrepreneurs, and individuals interested in starting a new business. By dedicating an hour to meditation, these individuals can take a break from their busy schedules and cultivate mindfulness alongside other professionals who share similar goals.
